Card Getting Declined?

It happens. Banks are overly cautious with dating charges. Here's exactly how to fix it.

Norway Denmark

Norway & Denmark — Updated Feb 2026

Near-Total Decline Rate on Traditional Banks

Starting around February 6, 2026, we are seeing nearly all payments declined from traditional banks in Norway and Denmark — including DNB, Nordea, Danske Bank, Handelsbanken, and others. While a rare transaction may slip through, the overwhelming majority are being blocked.

Why this is happening: Under EU/EEA regulations (PSD2), Norwegian and Danish banks enforce Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) on all online card purchases. This requires verification through BankID (Norway) or MitID (Denmark) via 3D Secure. When a merchant is registered outside the EU/EEA, traditional banks cannot complete this authentication handshake — so they hard-decline the transaction automatically. Recent enforcement tightening by Nordic issuers has made this a blanket block rather than a case-by-case check.

The fix: You need to use a fintech app instead. Apps like Revolut and Wise use different authentication flows that are not affected by this restriction. Traditional bank cards — debit or credit — are extremely unlikely to work regardless of your balance or bank settings.

Download Revolut or Wise, verify your identity, create a virtual card, and use that instead. This is the only reliable workaround.

Get Back Online in Minutes

1

Get a Fintech Card

Download Revolut, Wise, or Cash App. These approve dating charges way more often than traditional banks.

2

Create a Virtual Card

Generate a fresh virtual card in the app. This bypasses any blocks on your existing card number.

3

Enable Online Payments

Turn on "online payments" and "international" toggles in your card settings before trying.

4

Start Small

Try a small purchase first. Once it goes through, larger amounts usually work fine.

Cards That Actually Work

Fintech cards approve dating purchases far more often than traditional banks

We're independent from these providers. This is practical guidance based on what we see working, not financial advice.

It's Not You

Category Blocks

Many banks auto-block "dating" and "adult" merchant categories regardless of your balance.

Location Mismatch

When your IP address doesn't match your card's country, fraud systems get suspicious.

3D Secure Failures

Delayed or missing verification prompts cause silent failures. Fintech apps handle this better.

Maximize Your Success Rate

Disable VPN During Checkout

Set your location to match your card's country when making a purchase.

Expect the First Decline

It's normal. Fintech apps let you unlock and retry instantly — legacy banks don't.

Verify Your Identity First

Complete ID verification in your fintech app before attempting payment.

Try a Different Card

If one keeps failing, generate a new virtual card number and try again.
